Country Home

History

Can Jou is a Country Home with its own history. Located in one of the most isolated and beautiful landscapes of La Garrotxa, Catalunya, Can Jou was built at the beginning of the 11th century as a part of the old town La Miana. Also, was served as a refuge for Alfonso de Borbón during the Carlist wars and had already been registered as a Country Home in the fifteenth century. Later; It was acquired and expanded by the well-known British equestrian guide Mick Peters, who turned it into a world reference center for horse riding enthusiasts, and one of the pioneer rural houses throughout Catalonia and Spain, which currently holds the license of rural house number 10. Today, Can Jou retains the charm of its location, despite being only 6 km from the town of Sant Jaume de Llierca, 30km from Olot and 15km from Besalú; It is one of the most isolated rural houses with natural mountain landscapes in its 360º panoramic view.

In addition, it is an ecological and self-sustaining structure, which works with solar panels, septic tank and pure water of its own well, without electrical networks or traces of concrete around it. Can Jou has renovated facilities which consist of 10 rooms with their own bathroom, private and/or shared terraces, a living room with bar and ground fire, a large dining room with terrace and ground fire, swimming pool, yoga room and alternative therapies, etc, (with a maximum capacity for 26 people in total) which makes it the ideal place to relax, disconnect from the noise and stress of the city. We provide a sort of mountain activities, such as tracking, cycling, or any other activity of your choice. Our cuisine is served by his current manager Jose Luis Peregrin, who personally takes care of maintaining one of the essential aspects of the house.

Sustainability

Committed to sustainable development, we believe that ethical and responsible tourism is the only one capable of providing added value. That is why we are committed to a new way of doing things like the circular economy, reducing waste to a minimum.

We are a self-sustainable rural tourism house:
  • We obtain the energy of our photovoltaic solar installation, that’s why we do not have certain high-energy appliances, such as hair dryers, etc. What should we avoid using.
  • We get water from captures belonging to the farm subject to the variation of the stations, we try to make a responsible use among them.
  • Also, we clean the liquid waste that we generate on the same farm, try not to evacuate semi-solid waste (such as baby napkins) for the pipes, it is best to deposit them with the rest of the solid waste that we will treat properly for the environment.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Rooms

Can Jou has 10 rooms with its own bathroom. Seven double rooms, two triples and one family room. All the rooms are bright, with beautiful views of the magnificent landscape that surrounds us. We also provide baby cots without additional cost (with prior reservation).
